How to Choose Highlighter Shade

Highlighters have now gained a prominent place in every girl’s makeup bag. And why would it not – just a few swipes of it and your skin will already be adorning a lit-from-within glow! But this is only applicable if you have the right highlighter in hand. The highlighter you choose must blend into your skin as it is one of its own.

Here, lets take a quick look at how to choose highlighter shade that will compliment your skin to the PERFECT!

How to Choose the Perfect Highlighter Shade for Your Skin Tone

Find your skin’s undertone

Determining your skin's undertone is the most crucial step in finding the right highigter shade for your skin. Undertone is the underlying colour of your skin, and is mostly cool, warm, or neutral. To find your skin's undertone, take a look at the veins on your wrist – if they appear blue, you have cool undertones, and if they appear green, you have warm undertones and if it's something in the middle, you may have neutral undertones.

Cool undertones –  look for highlighters with a silvery or icy hue.

Warm undertones – opt for highlighters with a golden or peachy tint.

Select a shade that's one or two times lighter than your skin tone

One of the best ways to look for a suitable highlighter is to find a shade that's two times lighter than your skin.

Doing so will let you adorn a natural-looking glow and ultimately avoid that harsh touch to your makeup look. If you have medium skin, try highlighters with golden or bronze undertones, if you’re someone with deep skin, look for highlighters with copper or bronze undertones.

Choosing the right highlighter shade will add warmth and radiance to your complexion efforlessly.

Choose your formula

As highlighters are available in different formulas, such as powder vs liquid or cream, – its important that you opt for the one that is suitable for your skin type. Powder highlighters are easy to apply and work well for oily skin whereas cream and liquid highlighters are hydrating and work well for dry skin.

Be mindful in what formula you choose, choosing the perfect highlighter for your skin tone can prove to be a game-changer in your makeup routine. So experiment with different formulas and find the one that works best for you!
